Duane Hamacher is an Associate Professor at the University of Melbourne, where he leads the Cultural & Indigenous Astronomy program in the School of Physics. His research explores how humanity connects to the stars, particularly through the lens of science, history, culture, and society. He specializes in Australian Indigenous Astronomy and has authored over 60 publications. He also co-authored the best-selling 2022 book “The First Astronomers: How Indigenous Elders Read the Stars” with six Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Elders.
