In collaboration with Multicultural Association of Community Empowerment Inc (MACE), Rotary Caroline Springs has raised funds via their "Run For Rotary" fundraising. Dr Nivedita Nagarale with her husband and running mates have run a half marathon on the 19 June 2021 around Lake Caroline in Caroline Springs.
Our Run for Rotary fundraising campaign has come to an end. Our club members are all super proud to let you know that together we have raised $2905 so far (towards our goal of $3000). Deepti Alurkar from Multicultural Association of Community Empowerment Inc, Kathy Hall our Rotary club president and Wendy Gadsby met to discuss the next steps of the campaign and also the results of the MACE fundraiser. Both are raising funds to go to Covid Relief in India / Feed the Hungry Campaign. Together these two campaigns are just shy of raising $6500 (only $218 to go.. how great is that)!
What an amazing effort by all concerned. Together We Connect.
Feed The Hungry Program
Multicultural Association of Community Empowerment Inc (MACE) has been in the forefront supporting our communities and have provided free meals led by our President and supported our local community last year during lock down and provided grocery hampers to students and isolated seniors.
Presently , India has been hit by a massive second wave and the situation has gone severe ,with increasing number of patients and lock downs it’s only getting worse . The lock downs have not only have people loose their livelihoods but also responsible for people dying because of hunger.
Hence we have partnered with an International organisation focusing on one project at a time.
We have been supported by Rotary Bombay Central ( India ) and Rotary Caroline Springs ( Melbourne)
We believe no one should go hungry and worse die due to hunger.
We are working on multiple projects.
Our first project is to provide meals to the people in Mumbai where maximum people have lost their day jobs for a period of four weeks at this stage.
Project report by Rotary (Bombay Central) for your perusal.
Distribute cooked meal packets to marginalized, underprivileged communities that are most severely affected due to the lock-down. Our Hunger and Poverty Mapping Study is an effort to collate empirical data to ensure that the most needy communities are reached first.
Each meal costs us approximately Rs 30/- (including operations and distribution costs)
Without access to nutritious food, vulnerable population has lowered immunity levels, which makes them susceptible to disease. Thus, access to nutritious food is a form of preventive medicine in itself.
We have successfully implemented a combination of technology and hundreds of on-ground volunteers to roll out a comprehensive hunger map of the city of Mumbai that allows us to precisely target the most deserving marginalized groups. ‘The Hunger Map’ is a result of complementary, evidence-based, multilevel, multidimensional and nuanced interventions that are centered around the thresholds of poverty, viewed through the prism of hunger.
We are currently targeting 10000 cooked meals per day and planning to scale to 15000 cooked meals a day over the next few weeks for the absolute destitute and jobless population who have limited or no resources for cooking food.
