Toilets for students

We've created this project to help build toilets and hand washing facilities at the Government High School, Gillesugur in the Raichur district of Karnataka, South India.

Rotary Caroline Springs president Dr Nivedita Nagarale become aware of poor conditions at the small school, initially through a connection with the head teacher. The teacher had advocated for making the much needed improvements on her own over time, without success.

Here is a video of Dr Nivedita in India.

Toilet for Students

It gets worse

The 600 high school students and teachers do not have any working toilet facilities. They are forced to use the local areas outside. This leads to lower student attendance. Girls regularly miss school each month due to the lack of facilities and privacy. This effects both their education and time with friends.

What we are going to do about it

Rotary Caroline Springs volunteers got together and decided we wanted to do something to help. We are supporting the Gillesugur School and will work in conjunction with the local Rotary Club of Raichur, and local contractors to build two each of the much needed toilets and hand washing facilities for girls, boys and teachers. This will give students the opportunity to remain at school and better focus on their studies and overall wellbeing.

We are holding our third Run for Rotary event!

One of our club members Wendy Gadsby and friends Prabhu Patil and Ansshu and Puneet Malhotra will be kicking off the action with supporting, fundraising and participating in the upcoming Sydney & Melbourne Marathons.
