This week is World Immunization Week, Rotary Foundation are grateful that supporters in their Rotary Clubs support the work keep our communities healthy. We know that #VaccinesWork. Rotary members fight diseases such as malaria, COVID-19, and hepatitis — and have never been closer to ending polio.

Since 1988, Rotary and their global partners in the Global Polio Eradication Initiative have achieved a 99.9% worldwide reduction in polio cases. In 2020, Africa was declared free of wild poliovirus, and today, cases in the remaining wild-polio endemic countries, Afghanistan and Pakistan, are at their lowest level in history. This is cause for cautious optimism, but before we can celebrate the end of polio, we must remain vigilant and continue to work to immunize up to 400 million children all over the world each year.

The successes that have been achieved in preventing and treating disease would not be possible without our partners — or without donors. During World Immunization Week, Rotary members continue to support the Foundation efforts.

Earlier this year, the Global Polio Eradication Initiative launched a new strategy to certify the world free from polio by 2026 through the support of its members. Together, we will end polio.
